One person has died and another critically injured after they were reportedly knocked down by a tractor belonging to Kinyara Sugar Limited.
The accident happened at Rukondwa Village in Bwijanga Sub – county, Masindi District along Masindi-Hoima Road this morning (Tuesday).
Mr Fred Karubanga, an eye witness and driver who commutes the Masindi – Ntooma Road told our stringer at Masindi General Hospital where the victims were rushed for treatment that the two were riding on a motorcycle when the accident occurred.
He said that the unidentified victims were heading towards Masindi town when the tractor that was joining the road from Kinyara sugar factory knocked them down.
Mr Karubanga added that the driver of the tractor fled the scene.
He said that on seeing the victims’ condition deteriorate, the residents who had gathered around asked him to rush them to Masindi hospital. Unfortunately one died on the way.
By the time of filing this story, the other victim had been admitted to Masindi hospital as the deceased’s body lay in the mortuary.
“As I talk now, one has died. He bled profusely. Another is in critical condition admitted to the hospital,” said Mr Karubanga.
The tractor and the motorcycle registration numbers could not be readily established by publication.
