Thousands of Banyoro have this morning participated in ‘Empango Run’ an activity aimed at moblising funds to procure the theatre equipment for Kikuube district Health Centre 4 for better service delivery.
While flagging off the participants, the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Prime Minister, Mr Andrew Kirungi Byakutaa Ateenyi urged the people of Bunyoro to unite further for social-economic development.
Empango Run is one of the key activities carried out ahead of the Empango festival commemorated every 11th June.
Mr Peter Banura, the Chairman for kikuube district is one of the leaders who participated in the run that started at the kingdom headquarters in Hoima city.
He commended the organisers for choosing to moblise resources to improve health services in the district amid population explosion escalated by the refugees from Kyangwali Refugee Settlement fleeing conflict in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He added that as a local remedy, the district is working to elevate Kikuube Health Centre to the district hospital to meet the growing population demand.
Mr Steven Aseera Itaza, the Member of Parliament for Buhaguzi East in Kikuube district welcomed the idea of having annual rotational contributions to health services at Empango commemoration activities.
The function has been organised by Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom in partnership with Spice FM.
Every participant bought an ‘Empango Run’ kit at UGX20,000 whose proceeds contribute to the procurement of the health equipment.
Corporate organisations that supported the run include HB Hotel, CNOOC Uganda Limited, SBC and TotalEnergies.
However, it should be remembered that this year’s Empango (The 28th coronation) will not climax as usual because the King (Omukama) Dr Solomon Gafaabusa Iguru 1 is unwell, according to the kingdom’s official statement.
Rituals that require his physical participation will not be performed.
