All the monies that will be collected from the marathon to commemorate Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom 28th Empango (Coronation) anniversary will be used to procure operating theatre equipment for Kikuube Health Centre 4 in Kikuube District.

Mr Andrew Kirungi Byakutaaga Ateenyi, the Omuhikirwa (Prime Minister) of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, told a presser in his office at the kingdom headquarters in Hoima city that it is the kingdom culture to always procure different most needed equipment to be used in health facilities in the kingdom.

The Omuhikirwa said the kingdom in partnership with other entities will organise a run in which every participant will purchase a marathon kit at Shs20,000 with the proceeds directly channelled to purchasing the medical equipment.

The marathon that will be flagged off at Rukurato Hall in Hoima city in preparation of the commemoration, will also see a number of activities including bicycle race, royal prayers and concert among others done ahead of the D-Day that falls on June 11.

In the previous years, the kingdom equipped Hoima Regional Referral and Masindi General Hospitals with oxygen concentrators, Buliisa General Hospital received an ultra-sound scan while Kiryandongo Hospital received a complete blood count machine.

Addressing the press conference Tuesday, Mr Byakutaaga said the kingdom posterity plan is to cover the remaining Kakumiro and Kibaale General Hospitals by procuring medical equipment in order to improve service in various health care facilities in the kingdom.

The Omuhikirwa reiterated that the commemoration will not involve Empango celebrations since Omukama (King) Dr Solomon Iguru is unable to perform cultural rituals because he is frail.

The day will be celebrated at Hoima boma grounds under the theme: “Health and Unity.”
