Cranes’ game switched to Algiers in 2023 AFCON Qualifiers

Uganda Cranes’ opening game in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign against Algeria has been switched from Oran to Algiers, the Algerian Capital.

Ahmed Hussein Marsha, the spokesman for local football-governing body, FUFA, said the Cranes welcomed the change of venue for Saturday, June 4’s crunch game.

The game will be played at the 5 July 1962 Stadium in Algiers.

“Playing in Algiers is quite familiar with some of our players and they are happy with the news,” Marsha told this website.

The team flew out Sunday night through Tunisia from where they are due to connect Algiers on Wednesday evening.

Uganda is pooled alongside Algeria, Tanzania and Niger for a place to next year’s AFCON Finals to be hosted in Ivory Coast.
