The Hoima East Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC), has decried the way some health workers in public health facilities are handling patients in the Division.
Mr William Donanto Kasigazi says in all the health facilities he has so far visited during the impromptu monitoring and supervision of government projects in the Division, he has observed that majority health workers behave inhumanely and unethically towards patients.
He notes that such an approach and conduct has created a bad relationship between the two parties forcing some people who can afford to pay for private healthcare services to abandon public health facilities.
This, according to the RCC has given chance to misbehaving health workers to mismanage the available drugs since they are consumed by few people who cannot raise money for private services.
“We have moved in and around the Division together with the City Health Officer monitoring and sensitising the health workers how to handle patients who seek health services in government facilities following an outcry from the public that patients are being mistreated. I encourage our people to always report to our offices all health workers who are misbehaving while on duty for the authorities to take action because they are there to serve people,” he says.
The RCC says he has at least conducted his supervisory and monitory roles at Kyakapeya and Bacayaaya Health Centre 3s and Hoima Regional Referral Hospital among others.
