As many look forward to witnessing the Kabaleega Motor Rally ahead of Bunyoro’s Empango coronation anniversary, the Hoima City Deputy Mayor, Sylvia Balyesiima Nalumaga, has cautioned residents against road accidents.

Speaking at the launch of Kabaleega Motor Rally at the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom headquarters in Hoima city, mid-western Uganda today (Friday), Nalumaga said that the rally that has been getting popular year after year, attracts and excites many people, thus, increasing the risk of road crashes.

“It’s a great pleasure to host the Kabaleega Motor Rally in the city. But people should be vigilant as they come to watch this rally because it may cause accidents in case they fail to observe the rules set,” she said.

The rally will take place for three days starting with Friday, June 9 to Sunday, June11, 2023, – the coronation anniversary.

More than 40 drivers have already registered for the rally, according to the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU).

Ms Nalumaga urged parents and guardians to control the children amid this excitement.

Saidi Ali Kaketo, the Course Clerk at FMU, said they had inspected the rally route in collaboration with Hoima city authorities and confirmed they are in a good condition for the sport.

He also cautioned the drivers against careless driving that may lead to accidents or even death.

Kaketo said that four stages will be repeated and the super stage will be around Kikwite near the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church in Hoima city.

He added that they will scrutinise the rally cars on Friday to give the drivers some good time to drive-test their vehicles and get acquainted with the route.

Reynolds Kibira, the Vice President for FMU, the event organiser, said the rally is part of the activities to mark the 29th year for the enthronement of Omukama (King) Dr Solomon Gafabusa Iguru 1 of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom.

Kibira added that the route sections have been demarcated providing no go zones for the spectators to avoid accidents.

He, however, said it is the responsibility of everyone to follow the road safety guidelines made by traffic police for the success of the rally.
