The police in Hoima have in custody a woman in relation to the theft of a four-month baby, Shadiq Sewali, from Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.

The suspect whose identity is concealed not to jeopardise investigations, was arrested after the incident that took place on Monday, September 4, 2023.

The Albertine Region Police Public Relations Officer, SP Julius Allan Hakiza, told this online news channel that the woman was arrested to help the police in investigations since she had spent three days at the hospital and had made a mutual relationship with the lost child’s mother who is a casual labourer at the hospital, Ms Mary Katusiime.

The police officer adds that Ms Katusiime had laid her son in the orthopaedic ward to do her chores at the health facility but on returning to pick it up, she was shocked to find it stolen.

The baby’s father, Mr Sharrif Wamudu, says they reported the matter to the police adding that replayed footage from Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras only shows the mother entering the hospital with the baby but not the thief.

Mr Hakiza advises parents to always fully guard their children against such criminals before saying the hunt for the culprit is underway.
