Hoima police have issued criminal summons to the Hoima District woman Member of Parliament, Harriet Busiinge Mugenyi, over the assault of the aspiring Hoima Woman Member of Parliament, Beatrice Wembabazi alias Tr Mummy.

Wembabazi was assaulted while returning from Runga landing site in Kigorobya Sub-county, Hoima District where she had gone to consult voters about her ambitions on the NRM ticket.

Reports indicate that it all started when Busiinge’s driver, Henry Gama, blocked the road and jumped out of the vehicle before assaulting Wembabazi and her driver, Julius Barungi in the presence of Busiinge on Tuesday evening near Kiryatete landing site.

Wembabazi was rushed and admitted to EDPA Clinic in Hoima City. A health worker at the clinic who preferred anonymity told Kazi-njema News that Wembabazi suffered complications on the brain, chest and stomach, thus, requiring specialised treatment while her driver, Barungi, sustained injuries on the head and ears.

Wembabazi who is in a coma is admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

The Albertine region police spokesperson, Julius Allan Hakiza, said today (Thursday) that police have since issued criminal summons to Busiinge to go and explain what happened.

The police officer said that police will not hesitate to detain Busiinge should her driver, Gama, fail to show up.

Busiinge’s personal assistant, Rachael Asiimwe, is currently held at Hoima police station to help in investigations.

According to Hakiza, Busiinge is required to report to Hoima police station tomorrow Friday, August 21, 2020.

Efforts to get a comment from Busiinge were futile since our repeated calls on her known phone number went unanswered.
