Kagadi police have in detention the Rubiri Village General Secretary in Buswaka Parish, Kyaterekera Sub-county for purportedly selling government face masks.

The suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Jeremiah Asiimwe.
On Monday, Ms Lillian Ruteraho, the Kagadi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), flagged off the distribution of 341,197 face masks in the district.
This was the first consignment of face masks the Ministry of Health delivered to the district since the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country in March 2020.
Kagadi district leaders handed the face masks to village chairpersons to be delivered to the residents. However, the chairpersons were not given any transport to facilitate the distribution.

The RDC told our reporter on Tuesday that Asiimwe was found selling the face masks at Shs500 each as transport refund. This resulted in his arrest that Ms Ruteraho said followed a tip off from concerned residents.
Ms Ruteraho condemned the act saying Asiimwe will be dealt with according to the laws of Uganda.
“I want other people to learn from him so that they can stop interfering with government programmes,” said Ms Ruteraho.
