Kakumiro man, woman sentenced to 10, 6 years in jail respectively for attempted murder

The Hoima Chief Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 21-year-old man, Kunihira Musigazi Byabasaija, to 10 years in prison for attempted murder.

Court presided over by His Worship George Obong, heard that Byabasaija, a resident of Kasenyi Village in Nkooko Sub-county, Kakumiro District attempted to kill Johnson Tukwasibwe on April 22, this year.

Prosecution told court that sat in Kibaale yesterday Wednesday, October 22, 2020, that armed with a sharp machete, Byabasaija hacked Tukwasibwe in the head leaving him with severe injuries.

Appearing before the chief magistrate, the defendant pleaded guilty to the crime.

In his verdict, Mr Obong said Byabasaija committed a capital offence that necessitated him to deserve a severe punishment to act as a deterrent to others who take the law into their hands.

The magistrate, therefore, sentenced him to serve 10 years in Kibaale government prison.

The same court handed a six-year-jail term to Sarah Nyangoma, 25, resident of Nturagi Village in Kisengwe Sub-county, Kakumiro District also on charges of attempted murder.

Court heard that on 5th this month, while at Kisengwe trading centre, the accused unlawfully attempted to kill Rosette Tumusiime, a resident of the same area.

This after Nyangoma unleashed hot water upon Tumusiime when she caught her red-handed playing sex with her husband.

Nyangoma pleaded guilty before the magistrate sentenced her to Kibaale government prison.
