Kibaale man kills brother over land

A 27-year-old man, Kasaija Aliganyira, has died after his brother, Bosco Sunday, hit him on the head over a piece of land in Kibaale District.

Robert Tumusiime, their youngest brother, told our stringer in Kibaale that the duo, residents of Katooga village in Karama sub-county, Kibaale district had been embroiled in a protracted conflict over land ownership.

Tumusiime said the duo traded a quarrel before they started exchanging blows on Friday evening.

In the ensuing fight, Sunday picked up a hoe that he used to hit Aliganyira on the head.

Aliganyira was quickly rushed to a local clinic where he breathed his last.

“I was at Kakidamu village when Sunday came and told me that I go home that there was something there; that mybrother had been hit with a hoe. I also got a motorcycle and when I arrived at home, I found my brother laying down as people merely looked on, he narrated.”

“The misunderstanding was due to our deceased mother’s land. One was digging a pit latrine at the veranda of the other raising dust between the two,” he added.

Ms Teddy Tumuhimbise, the Kibaale district councillor for Karama and Matale sub-counties condemned the increasing cases of criminality mostly in Karama, calling for community policing in the area.

“I condemn this murderous act. This has become common in Karama. Witchcraft and murder are common in Karama. I condemn this act in Katooga. A young man died not because of sickness or witchcraft. His brother hit him with a hoe over a piece of land that moreover does not belong to them. It is understandable if one fights for his or her property. But this is a different case. You fight for something that belongs to your mother or father?  You even don’t know how much it was bought and how the money was made!” Ms Tumuhimbise wondered.

The politician urged all security agents in the district to join hands with all stakeholders to curb the increasing crimes that she said are likely to spread to other parts of the district.

“I request the police in Kibaale, Resident District Commissioner, Gombolola (Sub-county) Internal Security Officer to join hands with us and follow this matter not only in Karama alone but also in other sub-counties to where the vice might spread,” the politician added.
