Gerald Aseera, a former Runyoro-Rutooro news anchor at Kings Broadcasting Services (KBS) radio in Masindi Town has been shot dead.

The Albertine Region Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Julius Allan Hakiza, says Aseera was shot today (Wednesday) at around 3:00am at a Coca-Cola depot on Perse Street in Masindi town.

Mr Hakiza identifies the shooter as Simon Ekou, a security guard attached to Blue Whale Security Company – a private company that offers security services.

He says in his account at Masindi Central Police Station, Ekou alleged that the deceased gained entry to the Coca-Cola depot compound through the main gate, directly went to where cartons of soda were being kept, picked up four of them and decided to walk away with them; prompting the 38-year-old guard to shoot him in the chest.

Police was later informed, rushed to the scene and took the critically wounded Aseera to Masindi General Hospital for treatment where he was pronounced dead shortly.

The President of Greater Masindi Media Practitioners Association (GMEPA), Mr Stephen Wandera, called for speedy investigations into the murder for justice to prevail.

By publication time, the body was still lying at Masindi Hospital mortuary pending postmortem.
