Omukama Iguru to hold Empango thanksgiving service tomorrow

His Majesty, Rukirabasaija Agutamba Dr Solomon Iguru, the Omukama (King) of Bunyoro – Kitara Kingdom will tomorrow Thursday, June 11, 2020, hold this year’s coronation anniversary (Empango) scientific thanksgiving service at St Peter’s Church of Uganda (Anglican) Cathedral, Duhaga in Hoima town.

The Royal Highness will on that day clock 26 years since he ascended the throne from his late father, Omukama Sir Tito Winyi.

This year’s Empango celebrations were called off due to the threat posed by coronavirus.

The thanksgiving service that will be presided over by the Bishop of Bunyoro – Kitara Diocese, the Rt Rev Samuel Kahuma Abwoli, will be attended by a handful of invitees for fear of spreading Covid-19 since the day attracts millions of people from all walks of life around the globe.

Official sources from Karuzika palace in Hoima town say rituals and festivals performed in the run-up of Empango were cancelled in line with the health guidelines from the government.

The function will be covered by various media outlets to enable the Omukama’s subjects closely follow it in their respective homes.

The kingdom’s social media channels including the official website, twitter handle and Facebook page will keep people posted. The function will also be live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube.
