Opening of case preparation on plea bargaining in Masindi Main Prison launched

A plea bargaining session has today (Monday) officially been launched in Masindi Main Prison for about 120 inmates who wish to participate in the exercise.

The exercise was launched by the Principal Judge of the High Court, Justice Flavin Zeija with the Resident Judge of Masindi, Justice Paul Gadenya in attendance.

Ms Irene Nakimbugwe, the deputy Public Relations Officer in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said that the activity is being conducted in line with the present Covid-19 guidelines that were issued out by the Ministry of Health.

In attendance is the Resident Judge of Masindi, Justice Paul Gadenya, Lady Judge Jane Okuo, the Officer of the Director of Public Prosecutions staff led by the Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, Ms Margaret Nakigudde, Head of the Plea Bargaining Unit at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Regional Officer for Masindi, Ms Florence Akello and the Resident Senior State Attorney for Masindi, Ms Jane Musimenta.

Other stakeholders from Prisons, Police and Defence Counsel from the Criminal Justice System are also present.
