Police urged to serve beyond self

Newly decorated police officers in the Albertine region are urged to observe ethical standards and promote human rights while in the line of duty in order to serve better the communities in their respective stations.

Decorating 12 police officers promoted to different ranks at De Place Hotel in Hoima City, the Albertine Region Police Commander, SSP Vincent Mwesigye, also tasked the officers to ensure that they work hard and help the force to regain its trust among community members.

He said by creating a good rapport with the community, the police will bridge the gap that exists between them and civilians, thus, staving off the queer correlation.

Mr Emmy Turyabagyenyi Kateera , the Hoima Resident District Commissioner, is optimistic that the promotions made will motivate the police officers to scale up security vigilance especially at the borders of the region.

He cited the threat of armed men from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) attack Ugandan fishermen robing them of their fishing gears on Lake Albert as an issue for teh officers to focus on.

The Kikuube Resident District Commissioner, Mr Amlan Tumusiime, urged the promoted police officers to work at ensuring that they protect people against land grabbers in Bunyoro region in general.

The Hoima District Police Commander, SP Ruth Tukamusiima, who is among the promoted officers urged female police officers to work hard saying they, too, can execute police duties like men.

She encouraged women to stop demeaning themselves urging them to join the force in big numbers and work hard so they can be promoted to higher ranks in appreciation for their hard work.
