Two officials from the Ministry of Water and Environment have drowned after the canoe they were travelling in capsized on River Aswa, Agangura Sub-county in Pader District.

The accident took place on Monday afternoon when the officials had visited the Achwa Hydro Power Station for routine water level tests.
Joseph Wafula, a consultant in the ministry and Charles Komakech, a Kenyan who had been hired by the ministry died at around 2pm.
The Pader Resident District Commissioner, Dusman Okee confirmed the incident.
He said the bodies were still missing as efforts to contact police divers to search for them continued yesterday. However, two residents who were in the same canoe swam ashore safely.

They include Douglas Omona, a resident of Angangura trading centre and Simon Otinga, a resident of Atanga sub-county.
By the time of filing this story, the bodies were yet to be recovered.
