Uganda Cranes to face either Somalia or Tanzania in 2022 CHAN Qualifiers

The Uganda Cranes – the Uganda national football team will lock horns with either Somalia or Tanzania in the second round of qualification to the continental finals in the 2023 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria.

The draws were held on Thursday afternoon in Cairo.

The tournament brings together players knocking it out within domestic leagues.

They received an upper hand from the first round of qualification due to their World and CECAFA rankings.

The winner between Somalia and Tanzania will face Uganda in the second round, the second round of that tie will be played in Uganda.

The first legs in the opening round of CHAN qualifiers will be played from July 22-24.

The second legs will be played from July 29-31. 

The second round will start with the first legs on August 26-28, and the return fixtures on September 2-4.

The three CECAFA winners of the second round ties will advance to the finals in Algeria.

Next year’s tournament will host 18 teams compared to previous 16 slots after the Confederation of Africa Football agreed to increase the number of participants.

Uganda will be hoping to qualify for the CHAN finals for sixth consecutive time having featured at 2011, 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2021 finals.
