The Hoima District Councillor for Kiganja Sub-county, Mr Jackson Mulindambura, is hospitalised after surviving death by a whisker when thugs attacked him on Wednesday night.

The thugs hacked the politician in the hands as he attempted to defend himself against the attack before he was later stabbed in the stomach as the assailants fled.

Mr Mulindambura told journalists at his sickbed that the excruciating pain he was experiencing forced him to scream, attracting the neighbours who rushed to the scene only to find him bleeding profusely.

He said that the incident took place at around 11pm as he walked back to his residence a few minutes after his stopover in Kigorobya town to converse with his friends on his way from Hoima city.

“Six hooded persons emerged and stopped me before ordering me to surrender everything – something that I did but retained my bag. When I declined to surrender the bag that contained my important documents, one of the attackers pulled out a machete and stabbed me in the hands as I tried to defend myself,” Mr Mulindambura narrated.

“I had surrendered my two mobile phones and Shs50,000 that I had before they became more hostile. I boxed him and fell down but his accomplice picked the machete and pushed it into the left hand and later the second hand.

Adding: “I sounded an alarm which forced the thugs to flee but one of them threw the machete at me that injured me in the stomach.” He added.

The politician revealed that he immediately lost consciousness and woke up at a health facility responding to treatment.

Fellow district political leaders flocked the health centre today including Ms Hellen Mulumba, the district vice chairperson and her boss Mr Uthuman Mugisha.

“I received the news at around midnight and rushed to pick him up for better medical attention,” said Ms Mulumba.

Mr Mugisha has attributed the attack on his leader to security gaps in Kigorobya sub-county since many sub-counties were carved out without commensurate man power.

He said that he had petitioned different security offices highlighting the challenge.

According to him, this is the sixth case in a span of two months in the district.

The Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Julius Allan Hakiza, has said that police are already investigating the motive of the attack and who the attackers were.

The victim of the attack is one of the most vocal and longest serving councillors in Hoima District Local Government Council.
