The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has unveiled the Environment Licence Management Information System (ELMIS) aimed to commit itself to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

The Acting NEMA Executive Director, Mr Francis Ogwal, says the system will revolutionise the way the ombudsman will manage environmental licensing, promoting sustainable development and safeguarding the natural resources.

“The introduction of this system is a testament to our dedication to leveraging technology for the betterment of our environment and society as a whole.” He said.

In a bid to usher in a new era of streamlined and efficient environmental licensing, NEMA has targeted all registered environmental practitioners in Uganda who they have engaged in a comprehensive training programme covering various modules like e-licensing for them, project briefs, Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) e-certificates and online payment for NEMA services.

According to Mr Ogwal, the ELMIS eliminates the need for physical paperwork, reducing administrative burdens and enabling a seamless submission process for project briefs, terms of reference and ESIA report among others.
