The day every music fan was waiting for has come. Gates are open. Security is busy checking the fans at the entrance. Bouncers keenly keep eagle eyes as many queue up to pay lest they miss the long awaited music entertainment. It was the first Serena Ti9 live concert in Bunyoro dubbed ‘Serena Ti9 Live-in-Concert’ that registered a sold-out turn-up standing out as a successful one.

Kazi-njema News entertainment reporter, Vincent Kugonza aka Born-town witnessed a filled-up to capacity hall and tables flooded with all untold sorts of drinks with many gulping down their throats dry sherry, gin, wines, beers and soft drinks.

It was at around 11pm on Saturday, November 4, 2023, when HB Hotel hall got flooded, possibly due to the drizzle that continued to make the dark chilly cold.

The upcoming native artiste was accompanied by Bunyoro’s celebrated singers who made the concert nearly realise its image forehyped by the media.

Renowned gospel singer, Mr David King, Kahoora Boys crew and Figo West of Hoima are some of the Hoima-based artistes who performed while those from Greater Masindi included Kimxeller, Coco Thunder and Prince Keza Jojo Bigz.

David King’s shook the stage with his ‘Wave the Flag’ song that tested to be still standing to capture the audience evidenced in Serena Ti9 concert when fans waved as they enjoyed his performance.

Another exciting moment of the concert was the live performance of Serena and Rapadico’s love song called ‘Love Dose’.

‘Love Dose’ is their first collabo produced six months ago. Rapadico is known for his songs in Runyoro/Rutooro language including Twina Waka produced in 2017 and Akazano produced last year.

Serena Ti9 also performed her songs ‘Otalyeijukya’ (Never regret) and ‘Tukumachinga’ (we are matching) before she was disrupted by sound hardships that escalated at the peak of the concert.

The gig did not only add to live concerts among Bunyoro artistes but also acted as a sign of solidarity among themselves. The in-fights normally blamed for under development of the music industry in the region appeared to resolve as many fellow artistes supported her primarily.

Political leaders including the Hoima City Mayor, Brian Kaboyo, popped in for a while displaying his support to the music and entertainment industry.

Ismael Kasule aka MP Owensonga, and Rachael Asiimwe the aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Hoima district are some of the prominent political personalities that were present with the latter calling for the artistes’ support.

A renowned video Producer and Director, Mwesigwa Matthias aka Young Matic was also present and hailed and credited the concert as a success.

“I thank the party animals who turned up for this concert. This is a new trend where we are supporting each other,” he said.

One of Bunyoro’s legendary musicians, Musa Kalanzi better known by his stage name as Shon Man Sabayaaye, said it was high time Bunyoro artistes tapped into income like those in other parts of Uganda especially Kampala.

The biggest challenge around this live concert was the sound system as some asserted it was a technical glitch whereas others said Serena Ti9 is yet to get to the strand of live performance. However, sound hiccup complaints had been heard from singers who did not perform live.
