Bugungu Heritage and Information Centre has organised awards for children and youths who will exhibit knowledge of their lineage, reveals the organisation’s Executive Director (ED), Wilson Kiiza.

Mr Kiiza says the overall winner of the competition dubbed ‘Heritage Competitions 2021’ will bag back home a cash prize of Shs250,000 while the second runners up will be awarded Shs200,000.  The 3rd will get Shs150,000 while the 4th will return home with Shs100,000.

The ED told Kazi-njema News that the competition organisers saw it important to engage the young generation during this COVID-19 lockdown when they can easily access information about their ancestry.

“Since schools were closed, children and youths are at home – meaning they can inquire about their grandparents and the entire family history”, he says.

Mr Kiiza adds that the competition has also been informed the ground search that children are seemingly abandoning their African cultures in favour of western culture, thus, killing the former.

Divulging the scope of the competitions, he said the deadline for submission of applications is July 26, 2021, with Buliisa and Masindi districts being the geographical scope.
