Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom on Wednesday donated Shs2m to support Bunyoro province football team ahead of the looming second leg match against Acholi province on Saturday, August 13, 2022.

The match will be played in Acholi region in the FUFA Drum competitions.

During a meeting between the Bunyoro province football team officials at the kingdom headquarters in Hoima city, Mr Andrew Byakutaaga, the kingdom Prime Minister, expressed the cultural institution’s commitment to ensuring talent development for individual livelihood.

He also said the kingdom is devoted to promoting a healthy life for all people through sports since such activities prevent one from catching non-communicable diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure that can result from physical inactivity.

Mr Byakutaaga said since football is the most liked game the world over, it is important that Bunyoro kingdom supports it to produce talents that can even compete on the international scene.

Speaking in the same meeting, Mr George Kabwimukya, the General Secretary Bunyoro province football team, appealed for financial support from the people of Bunyoro saying the team needs Shs77m to see it through the game but unfortunately, it has not yet raised even half of it.

He urged all districts in Bunyoro region to always earmark funds for supporting sports activities for the promotion of talents and people’s healthy lives.

Mr James Ayebale, the Province Coordinator, said the team still lacks funds for accommodating the players in the camp, paying their allowances and build up matches among others.

“We find a lot of challenges to traverse the entire region looking for good players who can fully represent the region because we don’t have enough money to facilitate us. We, therefore, request the kingdom to start organising inter-district tournaments which will easily help us to scout good talents to represent our province,” he said.

Bunyoro province football team will leave for Acholi on Friday, August 12 for the away game that will see them progress to the semi-finals of this year’s FUFA DRUM tournament.
