Police in Hoima are holding one of their own and hunting another following the shooting and injuring of a civilian, Juma Ndozereho, 50, resident of Kicunda Village in Kiziramfumbi Sub-county, Kikuube District.

The Albertine Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Julius Allan Hakiza, told this website that Ndozereho met his fate on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 4:20pm when he was washing a Toyota Wish vehicle registration number UAZ 381G at Nyankwanzi swamp in Kikwite cell, Bwikya ward, East Division in Hoima city.

The police PRO said upon seeing the two patrolling police officers riding on a police motorcycle, Ndozereho jumped into the car he was washing and sped off.

This created suspicion to the police officers identified as Noah Nabugere Number 72867 PPC and Jeremiah Mukwana Number 72657 PPC that Ndozereho could be a car thief, thus, prompting them to pursue him on a police motorcycle registration number UP 6175.

Mr Hakiza added that Ndozereho branched off at one and a half kilometres to the home of Mr Vincent Kyamuke, a resident of Kikwite cell little knowing that it was a dead-end road.

Upon realising it, Ndozereho decided to reverse the vehicle so he could flee.

Such a conduct coerced one of the police officers, PPC Nabugere to jump off the motorcycle, cocked his rifle reportedly as a warning signal for Ndozereho to stop but all in vain, thus, aiming at the tyre to deflate it but the bullet reportedly hit him in the waist.

‘The officer discharged one bullet in an attempt to deflate the tyre but instead shot through the boot on the driver’s side. The bullet went through the back seat to the driver’s seat and ended up injuring Ndozereho on the right side of his waist,” ASP Hakiza said.

The victim was rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for treatment while police officer Mukwana was arrested and detained at Hoima East police station to assist in investigation as the police hunt the fugitive police officer, Nabugere who pulled the trigger.
