Mob lynches chicken thief in Kagadi

A 27-year-old man, Sylvester Asaba, was today (Tuesday) lynched and his body set ablaze by an irate mob in Bukungwe B Cell, Kyomukama Ward in Kagadi Town council after he was allegedly caught red handed with a stolen chicken.

The residents who ran amok also put beside his body a chicken he had purportedly stolen from a yet to be identified person.

The village chairman, Mr Matovu Mugisa, said the deceased had been a serial thief terrorising Bukungwe, Kihooga, Nyangereka, Kingira, Mambugu, Muhumbu and other villages in Kagadi town council, Kagadi district.

The chairman said that besides allegedly being a thief, Asaba had been a drug addict and a rapist who separated with his wife purportedly due to the vices that purportedly forced him to drop out of school.

Mr Mugisa added that his efforts to have Asaba reform hit a snag as he could not pay heed to his advice.

“Asaba had turned wild in our village and the neighbouring ones stealing domestic animals including goats and pigs and even chicken. His vice coerced people to live with their livestock and chicken in their houses. Due to his rape vice and drug abuse, Asaba was living alone since his wife separated with him.” I on several occasions engaged him to repent but he refused to take up the advice,” the chairman said.

Police rushed to the crime scene and took the body to Kagadi Hospital mortuary as investigations into the matter continue.

By the time of this publication, no arrests had so far been made.
