Three security guards arrested over theft of ambulance in Arua

Arua police have detained three security guards attached to Arua Regional Referral Hospital in connection with the theft of the hospital ambulance.

The West Nile Regional Police Publicist, Josephine Angucia, told Kazi-Njema News that the trio whose identity is concealed lest the police jeopardize investigations is detained at Arua police station as investigations into the whereabouts of the ambulance continue.

The police publicist adds that the detained guards were on duty when the ambulance, a Land Cruiser registration number UG 6812 M was stolen from the hospital parking yard on the night of March 27, 2021at an unknown time.

The matter was reported to Arua police station on Monday, March 29, 2021, by the head of security at Arua Regional Referral Hospital, Johnston Norman Ayaga, 35.

A case file of stealing a motor vehicle under Arua CRB 305/2021 was opened and statements recorded.

The stolen ambulance is one of the two new ones government recently gave to Arua Regional Referral Hospital to assist in Covid-19 emergency cases and other sicknesses that need immediate attention.

The law

Article 261 of the Penal Code Act stipulates that any person who steals anything capable of being stolen commits a felony called theft and is liable, unless owing to the circumstances of the theft or the nature of the thing stolen, some other punishment is provided, to imprisonment not exceeding 10 years.
