Thugs kill Kikuube village chairman in Masindi

Slain Julius Irumba Nyaika, former Musaijamukuru Village Chairman in Kikuube District.

The yet to be identified thugs have killed the Musaijamukuru Village Chairman in Ruhunga Parish, Buhimba Sub-county in Kikuube District.

Julius Irumba Nyaika, who was also a truck driver operating from Hoima city, met his fateful day on Thursday after he was Wednesday morning booked and hired to transport and deliver aggregate stones and sand to a yet to be identified person in Masindi district.

Mr Peterson Kyomuhendo who rushed to Masindi to pick up the body says while transporting the building materials, Nyaika was stopped by a group of unknown men in a sugar cane plantation at Kasoingoire village in Bujenje county, Masindi district.

Upon stopping the lorry, the assailants sprang on him and hacked him in the neck until he bled profusely to death while others trounced on the turn man identified as Joseph Gubaza and beat him up into coma.

Mr Kyomuhendo says Gubaza was rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital in a critical condition where he is undergoing treatment.

ASP Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Public Relations Officer, says the police have begun investigating the gruesome murder.

Mr Christopher Nkalu, the Kikuube District Local Government Council Speaker, describes the deceased as having been key in mobilising residents against land grabbing in their area at this time when three people have titled several hectares of land in Musaijamukuru village.
