Bunyoro’s prominent pressure group – Kangabaije has said that the clash in public between Hoima City Woman Member of Parliament, Ms Asinansi Kamanda Nyakato, and the Hoima City Secretary for Works, Ms Margaret Monday, was a shame to their voters.

Mr Nicholas Musinguzi popularly known as Mucakazi, the group publicist, said that the person of an MP hurling insults in public outside the meeting degrades her image and that of her rival – Ms Monday.

He, however, said that the issue of shame by the clash should not overshadow the need to investigate the shoddy work elements sighted on the rehabilitated roads.

In a video clip that went viral on social media, the Hoima Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Mr Badru Mugabi, was seen appearing to give up his efforts to intercept a physical encounter between the two leaders.

Ms Nyakato was seen forcing her advance beyond interception attempts by the RCC; coercing him to get off media cameras for his image.

Mr Kassim Asiimwe, a member of Kangabaije, said that the duo’s cantankerous conduct and behaviour symbolised disrespect to the city head of security and presidential representative, Mr Mugabi.

He also emphasised the need to investigate the corruption and embezzlement allegations made by the MP saying that the effects of corruption are far reaching.

Mr Geoffrey Sunday, the group chairperson, expressed the need to look into the probable causes of shoddy work and slow progress including delayed finances and ill-financing on works projects by the central government.

“They complain they do not have graders, finances delay to be received and so on. You hear they are borrowing graders from other districts which does not add up,” he said.

The two leaders conflicted on Tuesday this week during the Hoima City Works Committee Meeting Chaired by Hoima East Member of Parliament, Dr Patrick Mwesigwa Isingoma.

Seen on camera, was just a spillover of the clash centred on verbal assaults outside the meeting room at the premises of the city headquarters.

A source said that it started from MP Nyakato’s statements that appeared to accuse the city respective leaders of connivance for substandard work and contract awards.

Ms Nyakato was blamed for not being updated since it was allegedly her first attendance to the Works Committee where she is a member.
